Our History

Celerant Technology, a privately held Corporation, develops in-house and provides high quality, advanced retail management software systems to retail organizations. Ian Goldman, CEO, comes from a retail management software background and founded Celerant Technology to build an entirely new type of retail system from the ground-up. The software that resulted uses Java technology to solve data integration issues with a real-time, integrated POS system.

Our approach is individually focused rather than mass-produced. In addition to traditional planning, implementation, training and support services, Celerant provides a range of customized services designed to serve the more complex retail enterprises. These services include custom development, integration with ERP and legacy systems, and integration with alternative points of presence.

Celerant Technology's main headquarters are located in Staten Island, New York. We have satellite offices in Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida and Washington. As our business continues to grow, we are planning on expanding our presence to additional locations as well.

1991: Ian Goldman, CEO of Celerant, released a customizable DOS based POS and Inventory system designed to be more user friendly than other systems on the market at the time and accurately store large amounts of retail data.

1994-1995: Ian Goldman was one of the first retail software innovators to offer Windows compatible software. This software was designed with a user friendly touch screen interface that significantly increased staff training time and register throughput.

1996: Ian Goldman continued the development of advanced retail software, keeping in mind retailers' needs and expectations.

1999: Celerant Technology Corp was founded and opened its first office in NYC.

Launched EAS (enterprise application server), the first use of a Java based middleware application in the retail software industry. It also offered another first: real-time transaction processing, allowing retailers to experience an immediate transfer of data, without the constant need for polling.

2001: Introduced a completely integrated E-Commerce platform that directly connects the retailer's website to the retail software at the store, enabling real-time communication to the system's inventory and back end. Partnered with Paymentech and introduced Quick Charge, a credit card solution which offers near-instant processing over an encrypted connection. Introduced a full-featured warehouse management system, which is allocation-based and fully integrated with the retail software. Like the current version of Celerant Command Retail, distribution center data is kept in real-time enabling the rest of the enterprise to know what is in stock at all times.

2002: Unveiled a full featured, handheld wireless sale and inventory tool using the Symbol SPT 1700 Handheld Scanner with the Palm operating system.

Debuted gift and stored value cards which did not require any third party involvement or fees to be associated with them.

Introduced advanced reporting tools with data mining, data warehousing, and some functional advancements in automated merchandise warehouse management.

Announced biometric recognition capabilities used to verify employee identification when clocking in and performing transactions.

2003: Enhanced its existing E-Commerce solution by enabling a tighter link between the production database and the web customer to increase the retailers' ability to market limited quantities of product online.

Became the first to integrate with UPS OnLine® Tools for shipping, enabling more efficient fulfillment.

Debuted the first 100% Java retail management system, a real-time solution that provided a highly scalable solution to retailers who wished to take advantage of Celerant's multichannel capabilities.

2004: Held its first annual User Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, bringing together Celerant clients and staff for a two day learning experience for both sides.

Celerant acquired A&E Systems, Inc. and opened its first satellite office in Oklahoma.

2005: Launched Command Retail with Data Focus. Command seamlessly ties together the front end POS with back end functionality such as inventory control, advanced warehousing, distribution, allocation, and in depth reporting and analysis.

Coordinated second annual User Conference, and continue to do so each year going forward. Individual break-out sessions offered, along with New Feature presentations of new developments.

2006: Expanded its wireless offering by introducing wireless applications to perform inventory and merchandising functions with ease, such as physical inventory, purchase orders, transfers, and receiving.

Celerant was ranked #5 in the Market’s Top Apparel Software Firms by Apparel Magazine’s Software Scorecard, which also ranked Celerant #2 in Retail’s Top 20 for System Functionality.

2007: Celerant released development of their franchise model, and Open-to-Buy integration for merchandise planning and execution.

Celerant received top rankings in leading industry publications. Ranked #3 Top Overall Retail Software by the RIS Leaderboard study which highlighted the top Retail Software vendors. The Apparel magazine Scorecard again ranked Celerant #2 Retail Top 20 and named Celerant as a "Break-Out Leader" for overall satisfaction, ROI, and User Buy-In/User Friendliness.

2008: Released RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) for POS and quick transfers. This new technology allows retailers to have real-time inventory visibility at the store level and increase return on investment.

Celerant expanded its multichannel capabilities by offering an integrated catalog and mail order module. In addition, complete web analytics for website tracking and shopping cart abandonment was introduced.

Recognized by top trade publications, the RIS Leaderboard study ranked Celerant as the #1 Mid-Size Software Vendor and #4 Top Overall Retail Software. Inc. Magazine included Celerant on the 2008 Inc 5000 List of America’s fastest growing private companies.

2009: Expanded in-store and web offerings by introducing in-store wireless applications for POS, gift registry, remote quotes, and transfer order entry and launched web-based order entry for E-Commerce.

Experienced extensive growth with the acquisition of SportzPak, a leading retail team system, which resulted with the new Ohio office. Celerant also expanded to the West Coast with a new satellite office in Washington State.

Celerant was again included on the Inc. 5000 List for 2009, receiving higher rankings than last year and was recognized by the CPA Advisor as a Top POS System in their 2009 Review of Retail/Point of Sale Systems.

The RIS News Leaderboard Study ranked Celerant within the Top 5 overall retail software for the 3rd year in a row, along with Top 5 rankings for every midsize category available. Celerant is able to compete with the much larger companies due to the exceptionally high scores in customer service, including categories such as Quality of Support, Quality of Service, Leaders in Recommendation and Leaders in Product Reliability.
