The National Retail Federation’s “Big Show” is always a bit like a crystal ball for our industry. Walking the floor at the Javits Center this year, it was clear that 2026 isn’t about chasing every new shiny object. Instead, the conversation has shifted toward something much more grounded: practical execution and simplifying the lives of store owners.
For the Celerant team at Booth #4232, the week was filled with deep dives into how technology can actually help retailers act faster without working harder. If you couldn’t make it to New York this year, here are the three major shifts that will define the retail landscape in 2026:
If there was a common theme at NRF 2026, it was a collective desire to stop juggling so many disconnected platforms. Many store owners arrived in New York feeling the weight of a “tech stack” that has become a bit of a burden. They have a point of sale over here, eCommerce somewhere else, marketing tools layered on top, and reporting that has to be stitched together manually at the end of every week.
Most of the conversations at the show focused on reducing this friction. Retailers want one system that supports how they actually operate day to day. When your systems talk to each other, your team can move much faster because they aren’t wasting time on double-entry or fixing data errors. Your inventory stays accurate across every channel, your customer data actually makes sense, and your business decisions stop being guesses and start being based on real-time facts.
This is exactly why we focus on an all-in-one retail system. At Celerant, we connect your point of sale, eCommerce, inventory, analytics, and customer engagement into one ecosystem. You shouldn’t have to “duct tape” different tools together just to get a clear picture of your sales. By unifying these functions, you can focus more on your customers and less on managing your software.
When you have one system managing your data, the way you talk to your customers changes. Another major takeaway from NRF 2026 is that retailers are moving away from “blast” messaging and toward communication that reflects real behavior. Email, SMS, and loyalty efforts are becoming much more thoughtful and better timed.
The focus right now is not on sending more messages. Instead, it is about sending the right message based on what customers actually do. When your engagement is driven by real transaction data, it leads to better repeat visits and stronger long-term relationships. Customers notice when a message feels relevant to their interests rather than just another notification in their inbox.
We saw a huge amount of interest in our new Customer Engagement Suite (CES), which we officially unveiled as a marketing hub at the show. The goal is to have it serve as a central hub for email, SMS, reputation management, and campaign tracking, already connected to your store’s sales data. This allows you to send personalized campaigns that reflect what your customers are actually buying, helping you build a loyal community rather than just a one-time transaction.
One of the most unmistakable trends at NRF 2026 was that AI was everywhere. However, the story wasn’t just about what AI could do in the future, it was about how quickly it is being put to work to improve speed, efficiency, and personalization right now. For retailers, the real value of AI is the ability to scale their store’s operations and improve the customer experience without burning out their team.
At the show, we spent a lot of time showing retailers how we are building these capabilities directly into the Celerant platform, including our:
Our goal with these AI initiatives is to give you the speed of a massive enterprise while allowing you to stay focused on the personal, customer-obsessed service that makes your store unique.
We are ensuring every interaction is personalized, and every operational step is as fast as possible. This is the “how” behind the transformation that was discussed throughout the week at the Javits Center.
The energy at NRF 2026 confirmed that retail is evolving into something much more personal and efficient. The show might be over, but the momentum is just beginning. We’re excited to take everything we learned in New York and help our retailers turn these insights into a profitable reality for the rest of the year.
